"Food For Thought"

Wednesday night dinner with the kids in control........Success!!! To my surprise, with a little help from my "nurturing supervision", the girls did a knock-out job with the evening's spread. They made a Cesar salad followed up with a Shepherds Pie and Oreo cookie ice-cream for dessert. There were a few entertaining moments throughout the evening, like watching Bella try to chop the onion. She went at it like a killer in a horror film leaving behind mangled fragments of the pungent bulb  in her path. And Isaiah, hoping to make us Oreo cookie milk shakes, was unable to find the blender in our still newly moved in to unpacked house. But after all of that I would definitely have to say how much JOY that it brought me to hear them giggling and laughing through it all. Normally bickering with one another, they found a way to come together, pull it off, and have fun in the process. Now.... seeing how they did such a great job, I am going to make this a weekly routine.
Take a look!  :)

"Well Done"

This week I am trying something new in our household. I am passing on the responsibility of making dinner once a week to the kids. I feel that this will teach them accomplishment and how to contribute more to a group, in this case Family. Let's just hope that they don't burn the house down in the process!  We'll see ;)

"A Fool For Love"

Happy Valentine's Day!
"I hold it true, whate'er befall;
I feel it, when I sorrow most;
'Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all."

"A Rock And A Hard Place"

It's always nice when the ones we love notice all of the little things that we do "because we love them"! Sometimes it is a little too easy to take the people in our life for granted. A simple thank you or I'm sorry may not seem like a lot, but to the people who care, it means the world. This is a little lesson that I tried sharing with my kids recently. I hope that you enjoy :) ....Oh! And thank you for reading.

is to estimate things
at their true worth."

"Thank You"

This past week has been very exciting for me! I had the honor of meeting with two lovely ladies from two different local Detroit Newspapers, Katie Hetrick, from the Dearborn Press and Guide, and Marney Rich Keenan, from The Detroit News! Well, to make a long story short, they each did their own story about my blog, Jenny's Day, and the response so far has been wonderful. :) Thank you both, for all of your help!

"Violets Are Blue"

Even when we are aspiring to do some good and maybe even make the world a little better, there may be someone lurking in the shadows waiting for us to fail with their discouragement and doubt. Sometimes it is unintentional and sometimes it is not, but regardless, I believe that is important to never give up on your dreams and to always continue to live life by your standard, not by someone else's.    Enjoy :)

"People are often unreasonable, illogical and self centered; Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives; Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies; Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you; Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight; Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous; Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you’ve got anyway.
You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God;
It was never between you and them anyway."
~ Mother Theresa

"Ready For Take Off"

According to the Webster's dictionary, Yo Yo means :  a condition or situation marked by regular fluctuations from one extreme to another. This would sum up my Good friend Yolanda to a tee. She is an airline stewardess and while she is traveling the world she picks up interesting facts about the places that she has been and seen. Now only if she would leave some of it in the baggage claim everything would be perfect! Enjoy :)

"Illusions"

Sometimes what we see doesn't always reflect what is truly there. Take my daughters for example...one is at the stage where looks seem to be all that matter, while the other one is trying to grasp the complexity of the day to day thing that we call life. How do you teach your children that physical beauty is fleeting, but what you make of yourself on the inside ( inner beauty), that is enduring? Enjoy :)

"The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mode
but the true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul.
It is the caring that she lovingly gives the passion that she shows.
The beauty of a woman grows with the passing years"
  - Audrey Hepburn

"Holy Cow!"

When I was a girl, Sunday was the day that you would get all dressed up and head off  to church. Now a days it seems that the most important thing is to "just show up"!  Take a look :)

"Growing Pains"

This week Bella has been struggling with the possibility that she may be growing up. The mere thought of having to change who she is has been causing her much angst . I just hope that I can make the transition as painless as possible and help her to realize the adventure that lies ahead. Take a look :)

to climb a tree, I'll never grow up, never grow up,
never grow up! Not me!" -Peter Pan

"The Best Of Both Worlds"

Lately it seems that my husband and I are like two ships passing in the night. One of is either coming or going. And I guess I should be grateful that each of us are employed, but I am even more grateful that our children are provided for and get a little bit of both mom and dad. Take a look :)

"A Day In The Life..."

Since Jordyn has learned to walk I really have had to be on my toes. Everything is a new adventure for her, but I have really enjoyed watching her learn and grow each day as she explores the world around her. Take a look :)

"Scout Survival"

My son Isaiah has been Boy Scout for many years and let's just say that he has picked up a few skills along the way. Here is an example of one of them. I guess in order to survive in a family of six on a fixed income a boy scout has to do what a boy scout has to do. Enjoy!

"Reflection"

We all have moments when we contemplate life and our purpose, Cogito ergo sum (I think therefore I am). The answer isn't always clear, but  if one would only take a step back they just may see the  bigger picture. I titled this "Reflection" not only because of the reflection of thought, but also because I think that we all may see a piece of ourselves glaring back at us. At least I do.  Enjoy :)

"The Night Before Christmas"

Christmas is such a magical time of year. It's not only a time to give, but is also a time for us to remember our innocence and watch others enjoy theirs. A Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night :)

"Star Struck"

☆We all have times when we need to be tough, but sometimes we can unknowingly hurt the ones we love. It's good to know when to take off the gear that hides and protects us and just be real. Enjoy ☆

"Moving Day"

This week we started the big move into the new house and I thought that I had it all figured out. Aside from the delay of the truck rental, the scratched furniture, and my husband saying "If you want to make an omelet you have to break a few eggs", I learned a few things. . . Always plan for something to go wrong and most of all, if you want something done right, sometimes you have to do it yourself. Check it out.

"A Lesson Learned"

Watching our children struggle is tough for a parent, but watching them learn from their mistakes and succeed makes it all worth-while.

"Lions, & Tigers, & Boots, Oh My!"

I really enjoy doing stories like this one. It not only shows the ongoing feud between my two lovely daughters, but it also allows me to amplify the importance of a child's imagination. Enjoy!

"Different Worlds"

No matter how crazy my day gets, and believe me it can get pretty crazy, it's always nice to have somebody to  listen to my woes and calmly bring me back down to earth. Unfortunately, that's not always the case :) Take a look.

"Never Judge A Book By Its Cover"

Having two girls with two completely different personalities isn't always easy. In fact, it hardly ever is. Here is a story about sisterhood and how we should all learn to appreciate each others differences.

"A Bug's Life"

Here is a story about my daughter Bella, the sensitive one. A story about life and the realization of how precious a gift that it really is.  Enjoy!

"Media is the Message"

Try explaining to a young boy about presentation and how important it is to make an apology to someone even when you think you have done nothing wrong! Well, this is something that I had to deal with this week with my son Isaiah. Sometimes the way we present something is just as valuable as the act itself. Take a look :)

"Angel Eyes"

Watching my children grow up and go through stages has really been a learning experience for me.  Like I have told Angel, "I was 14 once and I understand, but I have never been the mother of a 14 year old and this is all new to me!" Here is an example of a day living with a teenage girl. It isn't always easy, but it is sometimes very entertaining.

"Baby's First Word"

Here Is My First Comic Strip On Jenny's Day And To Be Honest, I Was More Concerned With How I Was Going TO Get A Hand Drawn Picture Onto The Internet Rather Than  Drawing It. Anyway, Here Is A Little Story About Jordyn's First Word And How She Surprised Us All.

"Salutations"

Welcome to the debut of Jenny's day. I suppose that I started this blog at a somewhat crazy time in my life. I am working, raising a family, ages ranging from 14 yrs to 1 year, trying to find a way to finish college, and in the midst of it all........I am about to move and trying to get it done before the Holidays.

 My hopes are to turn this blog into a snip-it journal of drawings and stories that will let you take a glimpse into the life of a working class family, my family, doing everything they can in a struggling economy. And maybe when you read it you will see the simplicity and how alike we all really are. I hope that you will click away leaving with a little smile on your face.

So hang on while I try to get this thing started. I know that it will be worth the wait :)
